Sleep: A Weapon Against The COVID-19 Virus

On the 7th of April, we celebrated World Health Day with the rest of the globe. For those of you who are curious, here is a little sneak peek into the history of the World Health Day. The First Health Assembly passed the resolution for this in 1948, and it took effect two years later, that is, in 1950. From the very beginning, the day was used to highlight a health-related concern that the World Health Organization picked as the theme. This year, we at Wakefit realized how necessary it is right now with the COVID-19 global pandemic to talk about the need to strengthen our health. And one of the best ways to do that is through a good night’s sleep.

Lack of good sleep can make you vulnerable to illnesses. Several studies have thrown light on the importance of good quality sleep in relation to the duration to fight microbes and other allergens. When you don’t get enough sleep, your chances of getting affected by a virus, such as a coronavirus also increases. Not just that, your chances of recovery are also affected negatively.

Why exactly do we become prone to illnesses when we do not get proper sleep can be understood from the effect unhealthy sleep has on our immune systems. When we sleep, our immune system starts its repair work. It releases cytokines, which are proteins that help with the rejuvenation process. These cytokines help protect us against illnesses and help deal with inflammation or stress of any kind. When we do not sleep well, or for the right number of hours, there is a decrease in the secretion of these cytokines. As a result, our body’s ability to effectively fight infections or diseases is drastically lowered.

Wakefit understands the need to invest in a good mattress for good sleep. While a healthy routine comprising a good diet, an exercise routine, stress-busting activities like meditation and spending time in nature, etc. are crucial for proper sleep, a good mattress is often ignored as one of the prerequisites for good sleep. A good mattress has featured just pressure relieving properties, a cooling technology, adequate support for different parts of the body, and hypoallergenic properties. Today, hypoallergenic sleep solutions become crucial in the fight against illnesses.

Wakefit’s mattresses keep away dust mites, microbes, and other irritants. The mattresses not only ensure that dust does not settle on its surface, but they also prevent dust from seeping into the mattress and camping in the layers. This allows the mattress to protect your skin, your lungs, and by ensuring you get good sleep, preventing your immune systems from becoming inefficient. For people with weak immune systems, who catch a cold rather easily, or those who have sensitive skin that develops rashes, a hypoallergenic mattress is one of the best gifts they can give themselves.

Good sleep is crucial for good health, and though good health has always been a priority, it is the only true concern right now as we all prepare to fight the COVID-19 virus.
