I then began to work out regularly with the primary aim of losing weight. During this journey, I decided to become a Zumba fitness instructor to inspire others to start exercising,\u201d she says.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">At this point, Nikita was studying nutrition in Mount Carmel College.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">\u201cThe knowledge gained in this field helped me understand that the primary aim of exercising and consuming a proper diet should be to develop good health and not merely for weight loss\u201d, Nikita adds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">With this newly acquired perspective around healthy sleeping and good living, Nikita decided to become a nutritionist and help others improve their lives too.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Healthy sleeping means happy living\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Talking to us about her personal philosophy of subscribing to a holistic lifestyle, Nikita shares her equation for good living as: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3256 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wakefit.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/D2-1024x1024.png\" alt=\"Healthy sleeping Habbits\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wakefit.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/D2-1024x1024.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.wakefit.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/D2-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/www.wakefit.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/D2-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/www.wakefit.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/D2-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/www.wakefit.co\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/D2.png 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Since good sleep habits is a big part of this equation, we asked Nikita her thoughts on the relationship between sleep and food.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Talking about the strong connection between healthy sleep habits and good food, Nikita says that if one were to put it simply, lack of sleep results in a higher risk of binge-eating and making unhealthy food choices.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cStudies have shown that <\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wakefit.co\/blog\/poor-sleep-weight-gain-linked\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chronic lack of sleep increases the risk of obesity<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and higher waist circumference,\u201d she cites. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">It is a vicious cycle because poor food choices, coupled with irregular food times contribute to poor sleeping hours, Nikita adds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Suggested read: <\/b><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wakefit.co\/blog\/in-coversation-with-sleep-intern-vijay-thanki-on-importance-of-sleep-and-exercise\/\"><b>Sleep Intern Vijay Thanki\u2019s Transformation Happened Through Good Sleep Habits<\/b><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h1><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Why snacking before bedtime is counted among bad sleep habits<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Many people love snacking before bed. Nikita, however, labels this as one of the bad sleeping habits that needs to go to the dumpster.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Nikita recommends refraining from food at least 2 to 3 hours before your ideal sleeping hours.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">If you are really hungry or stressed, she suggests brewing a cup of chamomile tea for yourself.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">An alternative, she says, is a glass of milk with turmeric.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">You can include magnesium rich foods such as bananas, tender coconut water and almonds as these are foods for good sleep, Nikita advises.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Having said that, Nikita reiterates that it is best not to consume food a couple of hours before your ideal sleeping hours.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Foods to avoid for healthy sleeping<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Foods that you must avoid before bed which do the opposite of what sleep inducing foods do include,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Heavy meals with unhealthy high calorie<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Junk foods and foods that are high in sugar, such as sugary drinks and desserts<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; sleep habits for your immune system<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">With the pandemic being the new normal, working on strengthening one\u2019s immune system has become more necessary than ever before.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">\u201cIt is beneficial to consume foods rich in Vitamin C such as amla and oranges. Include ingredients such as turmeric, pepper, ginger and a wide variety of spices while cooking,\u201d she adds when sharing her nutrition tips.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">According to Nikita, some bad food habits to steer away from include under-eating vegetables, in particular green leafy vegetables, low intake of fruits, lack of water intake and making dinner the heaviest meal of the day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Also, skipping meals to lose weight and overeating nuts because nuts are considered \u2018healthy\u2019, are myths that one is better off without.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<h1><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A recipe for healthy sleeping\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;
