The most important areas of a kitchen that require tips for kitchen cleaning and regular deep cleaning are:

  1. Kitchen counters and surfaces
  2. All appliances and equipment used in the kitchen.
  3. Taps, sinks and drains
  4. Cabinets
  5. Chimneys and exhaust fans
  6. Floors.

Best Kitchen Cleaning Tips:

Your kitchen is a sacred space, hence it must be taken care of on a regular basis. Regularly cleaning your kitchen not just makes it visually appealing or tidy but it also helps maintain your appliances, counter, shelves, cabinets and everything else. Consistent cleaning of the kitchen makes it less likely for residues to accumulate in the long run. Additionally, the more often you clean, the less effort you need to put into maintaining it.

So here are some of the easy, natural yet effective tips for kitchen cleaning:

1) Baking soda:

Baking soda is a versatile product that is commonly used with lemon or vinegar as kitchen cleaning hacks. This is because it is a mild alkali, acts as a deodorizer, and easily dissolves grease, fat and oil leaving most of your stainless steel materials, sparkling clean and fresh smelling.

Baking soda can be used to clean almost everything in your kitchen including sinks, drains, ovens, grills, microwaves, and stoves. It can also be used as a deodorizer in refrigerators and trash cans.

  • How to clean sinks and taps?

Sprinkle some baking soda on a sponge and scrub to get out stubborn stains and gunk. You can also use a toothbrush for smaller areas that the sponge may not be able to clean thoroughly.

  • How to clean drains?

Start by pouring boiling water down the drain first. Then pour down 1 cup of baking soda followed by one cup of water/vinegar. Plug the drain and wait 5-10 minutes. Finish off by pouring another jug of boiling water down the drain.

  • How to clean ovens, microwaves and grills?

Simply pour one cup of baking soda in an oven/microwave safe container. Run the appliance for 5 minutes. Let it sit for a minute or two before removing the baking soda mixture. Wipe your appliance clean.

Tip: You can also add a few drops of lemon juice for a fresh citrus fragrance post cleaning.

  • How to clean glass stove top?

Generously sprinkle baking soda on the glass stove top and scrub with half of a lemon.

To use baking soda as a deodorizer, simply sprinkle some of it in your trash can before placing a garbage bag in the bin.

Similarly, you can place a bowl of baking soda in your refrigerator to eliminate bad odor for about three days. However, if bad odor persists from your refrigerator, you may need to clean out your drain tray behind your refrigerator. You can either call for a service or clean it yourself. Heads up though, it may smell really, really bad.

2) Lemon and vinegar:

Kitchen cleaning tips are incomplete without vinegar. Vinegar (preferably white vinegar) is the most effective way to kill bacteria in your kitchen. But for it to be most effective, it is important not to dilute it with water. For this reason, we use it along with lemon to eliminate its pungent smell and bring out a fresh citrus fragrance. Lemon and vinegar used together acts as an excellent degreasing cleanser.

If you’re wondering how to clean kitchen cabinets, pour the lemon-vinegar mixture in a spray bottle and generously spray it on kitchen cabinets and counter tables. Wait for a few minutes before wiping it clean with a soft or microfiber cloth.

Lemon and vinegar can also dissolve calcium deposits and build up in taps and sinks. Simply add the mixture in a plastic bag and tie the bag around the taps in a way where the tap head is immersed in the mixture. Wait half hour, scrub with a toothbrush, and be amazed by a stronger water force through the tap.

Additionally, white vinegar (Acetic acid) acts as a disinfectant that successfully kills some bacteria and viruses that are commonly found in kitchens.

3) Dish washing soap:

Another answer to your “how to clean glass stove top” queries – the famous dish washing liquid soap. Simply add two to three drops of liquid dishwashing soap to a cup of warm water and put the mixture in a spray bottle. Spray on all surfaces including stoves (when not in use) and wipe after a few minutes. This mixture does not remove grease and tough stains. However, it can be used as an everyday mild or quick clean up after deep cleaning.

4) Essential oils:

Essential oils do a great job at keeping any corner of your house sweet smelling and fresh. Put two drops of your favorite essential oil on cotton balls and keep it in the trash can to eliminate any odor. You can also add 25-30 drops of peppermint/lemongrass/eucalyptus/lavender or tea tree essential oils to one cup of water and spray it in and around your kitchen. These essential oils are known to repel insects and will keep your kitchen bug-free! This is one of the most least known house cleaning tips.

5) Vacuuming:

One of the oldest kitchen cleaning tips, last but not the least, vacuuming is an excellent way to clean your kitchen.  If you’re wondering how to clean kitchen cabinets, pesky corners and unreachable sections of the kitchen, this is an effective way to do so. This will take away the final traces of dust and fallen food particles, powders and wastes. Use a hand vacuum to clean deep inside the cabinets, above the cabinets, behind the refrigerator, and under the stove.
